Care, Custody, or Control

Care, Custody, or Control insurance is an essential coverage endorsement for equine operations involving non-owned horses, including boarding and training operations. Typically, a standard Commercial General Liability policy excludes coverage for personal property in your Care, Custody, or Control (which includes non-owned horses). This coverage endorsement buys back that coverage.

If you board, train, breed, or are legally responsible for equine that you do not own, you have a responsibility to provide adequate care to these horses, including a safe stable environment and proper emergency procedures. This endorsement provides coverage in the event of the death, injury, or theft of a non-owned horse in your Care, Custody, or Control. Should the unthinkable happen, this coverage will pay on your behalf the amount you are legally obligated to pay. As Care, Custody, or Control is a liability coverage, it also provides for defense coverage in the event of a lawsuit, whether or not the suit has merit.

When this coverage is added, your policy will provide coverage up to the chosen limits for the injury, theft, or death of an equine in your Care, Custody, or Control. Coverage is applied to each individual horse on a per horse limit, with an aggregate limit for all claims filed during the policy period.  If you work with horses you do not own, you should have this coverage.
